P21~(WAF1/CIP1) expression with prognosis of epithelial ovarian carcinoma

Objective To identify the significance of p21 expression in patients with epithelial carcinoma.Methods Thirty normal ovary,30 benign epithelial ovarian tumor and 108 epithelial carcinoma formalin-fixed specimens were retrospectively reviewed.p21 protein expression was detected by immunohistochemical staining.Results The positive rates of p21 were 88.33% in normal ovarian group,80.00% in benign ovarian tumor group,and 64.81% in ovarian carcinoma group.The positive rate of p21 of epithelial ovarian carcinoma group was lower than other two groups ( P =0.0147).The p21 staining was associated with the 5-year survival ( P =0.0246).Conclusion The p21 expression has some significance in predicting the prognosis of epithelial ovarian carcinoma.
