Abstract
Objective To study the effect of meloxicam on hepatic ischemia/reperfusion injury and the expression of the cyclooxygen-2 in rats. Methods Thirty nomoral male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups.namely group A that was subjected to ischemia/reperfusion injury with meloxicam(3mg/kg) 30 min before ischemia;group B with the same injury followed by saline administration in the same manner, and group C with only anesthetization leparotomy but not ischemia.Animal were killed at 6 hours after reperfusion.Routine assays were performed for testing the levels of alanine aminotransferase(ALT),aspartate aminotransferase(AST),lthe activity of hepatic SOD,MDA and the expression of the cyclooxygen-2.The pathological changes in the liver were evaluated in hematoxylin and eosin(HE) stained sections. Results The levels of serum ALT,AST and the activity of SOD,MDA in hepatic tissues increased after hepatic ischemia/reperfusion injury were also increased significantly. But these effects were offset by administration of meloxicam(P0.01).In group B,widespread pathological changes was observed in the hepatic tissue following hepatic ischemia/ reperfusion injury, while similar changes were scarcely visible in groupe A duo to the protective effect of intraperitoneal administration of meloxicam 30 min before ischemia. Conclusion The meloxicam can depress the expression of the cyclooxygen-2 and alleviat the Liver function during the ischemia and reperfusion period and protect the liver from ischemia and reperfusion injury.
