Abstract
Objective To know about the status of smoking and passive smoking among city residents,in order to carry out health education and provide a basis for tobacco control.Methods In accordance with theChinese residents in 2002,nutrition and health survey in a sample program,sampling method was adopted.720 families were selected from 8 villages or neighborhood,at least 3 years of age and above as participants of the sur-vey.Questionnaire was used in the survey.Results The total of 2 150 people were investigated for smoking status.There were 688 smokers,and smoking rate was 32.0%.Smoking rate was 66.1% for male,0.8% for women.The highest rates of smoking were 41.9% and 38.2% for 51 to 60-year-old age populations in urban and rural areas.Residents smoking rate:the rate of regular smoking and heavy smoking rates were 31.6%(for male 65.3%,female 0.8%),30.0%(for male 62.0%,female 0.8%) and 28.7%(for male 59.0%,female 0.8 %).94.7% of smokers smoke at least one cigarette every day.The average age of starting smoking was 22.4 years old.They basically smoke cigarettes with filter,the average daily smoking was 14.9,8.1% of smokers had tried to quit smoking once for more than two years.47.1% of the residents in the city were smokers.Passive smoking rate was 35.3%.Smoking residents around woman in the city and passive smoking in rural have the highest rates.Conclusion Smoking and passive smoking in the city residents was a serious social problems.The people should be the main target population for health education in the future for tobacco controlling.All of the relevant departments in society should actively take part in this work.
