Abstract

As a typical background scene in Chinese classical opera, garden undoubtedly remains as the favorite of implicit opera artists to express emotions due to its complicate and sentimental features, and thus becomes as the carrier of the plot development, even as the primary form of stage sets.Based on the summary of the garden scenes scattered in the famous Chinese dramatic work of The Romance of West Chamber, this paper tries to restore the Pujiusi Temple with romantic love story between Cui and Zhang, and analyzes the architectural features and spatial construction such as the Lihuashenyuan Garden and Houhuayuan Garden, combined with the development of the story. So the Pujiusi Temple is not just seen as the extension of story, but also the reflection of the figures' emotion, and can decipher the promotional effect of the garden scenes on the plot development as well as the characterizations.
