Clinical analysis of fertilization methods in IVF-ET cycles for patients with poor ovarian response

Abstract

Objective To compare the efficacy of intracytoplasmic sperm injection(ICSI)and conventional IVF in patients with poor ovarian response.Methods One hundred and three in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer(IVF-ET)cycles from patients with poor ovarian response were classified into IVF group(46 cycles)and ICSI group(57 cycles).Fertilization rate and normal fertilization rate,cleavage rate,incidence of fertilization failure,and clinical pregnancy rate were retrospectively analyzed in the two groups.Results The fertilization,normal fertilization and cleavage rates in conventional IVF group were 78.8%,72.6% and 95.1%,respective,and were 72.0%,66.4% and 96.8%,respectively,in ICSI group.No significant difference was observed between the two groups(P0.05).Significantly higher incidence of fertilization failure was observed in IVF group compared with that in ICSI group(15.6% vs 1.8%,P0.05).However,there were significantly higher clinical pregnancy rates per egg available and per embryo transfer cycle in IVF group.(27.3% vs 9.1% and 33.3% vs 11.1%,respectively,P0.05).Conclusion ICSI treatment can not increase fertilization rate and clinical pregnancy rate in IVF-ET cycles in patients with poor ovaian response.
