Abstract
What is the theoretical foundation of critical pedagogy? Some think it is postmodernism, while others believe it is the Frankfurt school's critical theory. By analysing western Marxism, the author thinks,although it comes from some different theories,critical pedagogy is more or less based on the critical theory of western Marxism. So its theoretical foundation is mainly the critical theory of western Marxism. Critical pedagogy is the reflection of western Marxism on education.
