Abstract
Objective:To evaluate the clinical significance of CD 34 in the diagnosis of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs). Methods:Immunohistochemical assays of CD 34 , vimentin, Desmin, actin, and S-100 were used in 35 cases of GISTs. Results:There were 14 cases benignancy, 9 cases potential malignancy and 12 cases malignancy in the 35 cases of GISTs. Immunohistochemical percentage of positivity was as follows: vimentin 100%(35/35) ,CD 34 85.7%(30/35), actin 23.9%(8/35), Desmin 5.7%(2/35) in 35 cases of GISTs. There was no difference from CD 34 between benign and malignant GISTs (P0.05). Conclusions:CD 34 plays an important role in diagnosis and differential diagnosis of GISTs, but it can′t differentiate between benignancy and malignantancy.
