Abstract
Objective To investigate the changes of cerebral oxygen extraction fraction(OEF) following acute cerebral infarction and its clinical value in old patients. Methods Fifty-eight old patients with acute cerebral infarction of carotid artery system were divided into two groups:severe group(GCS≤8,32 cases) and non-severe group(GCS8,26 cases).Blood samples were obtained through jugular catheter and then jugular vein blood oxygen saturation(SjvO_2) was measured. Simultaneously pulse blood oxygen saturation was measured and OEF was calculated.SjvO_2 and OEF were compared between two groups. The relationships of the two parameters with GCS. GCS-P and GOS were analyzed. The value of OEF for predicting prognosis was investigated. Results SjvO_2 was significantly higher in severe group than in non-severe group(P0.01).while OEF was significantly lower in severe group than in non-severe group(P0.01).SjvOv was negatively correlated with GCS,GCS-P and GOS(P 0.01),while OEF was positively correlated with GCS,GCS-P and GOS(P 0.01).Unfavourable prognosis incidence was higher in the patients with OEF≤30%than in those with OEF30%(P 0.01).Conclusions For old patients with acute cerebral infarction of carotid artery system,OEF is a valuable parameter for evaluating degree of cerebral function injury and predicting prognosis.
