Abstract
Objective To understand the current situation of iodine deficiency disorders(IDD) in Xuzhou City and evaluate the effect of prevention and control measures,so as to provide the evidence for policy-making.Methods Thirty places were selected as survey sites in iodine deficient area with the proportional population sampling(PPS) method in Xuzhou City,2008.In each survey place, one school was selected by using the simple random sampling method, and in each school,40 students aged 8-10 years were selected by using the simple random sample method while keeping age and gender balance. These students were examined for the thyroid grand, and the salt that the students brought from their own home was tested for iodine. The urinary iodine was measured in 1 200 students. All the data were analyzed statistically. Results A total of 1 200 children aged 8-10 years were surveyed, and the goiter rate was 0.75%(9/1 200).The iodine salt coverage rate was 96.67%,the consumption rate of qualified iodized salt was 95.5%,the rate of qualified iodized salt was 98.79%,the median iodine salt was 31mg/kg,and the median urinary iodine was 241mg/kg.Conclusions Xuzhou City continues maintaining the status of iodine deficiency disorders elimination.
