Abstract
As a transfer mode of broadband integrated services digital network (B-ISDN). asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) has made rapid development for its independence between networks and services. This paper introduces the concept of ATM. and focuses on the new progress of ATM including its application in intelligent network, radio network and the method to carry IP over ATM. The controversy between IP and ATM is also discussed.
