Abstract
Aim To survey and analyze the epidemic characteristics of drug abuse in Anhui.Method Retrospective investigation and analysis were carried out in 1 519 drug abusers who underwent either voluntary or compulsory detoxification during 2004.Result Most of the drug abusers in this area were unemployed and self-employed young men under the age of 21 to 40 with low educational level.The source of drugs was black-market.The abusing route was intravenous or intramuscular injection.The consequences of drug abuse for individuals,families and public health were serious.Conclusion The key measure for drug demand reduction is to establish prevention mechanism,fight against drug related criminals and cut off the channels of black-market.
