ANALYSIS OF BEHAVIOR AND HARM CHARACTERISTICS OF DRUG ABUSE IN CHONGQING

Objective: To understand the situation of drug abusers in different institutions in Chongqing area,and provide scientific basis for monitoring and intervention in the future.Methods: A cross- sectional survey was conducted in compulsory detoxification institutions,methadone clinics and jail / detention in Chongqing area.Results:A total of 390 drug abusers were interviewed,drug abusers tended to be males( accounted for 81. 5%),middle or lower education( 75. 1%),unemployed(57. 4%) and the average age of the whole sample was 34. 7 a ± 8. 7 a. Top three abused drugs were heroin(66. 7%),methamphetamine(43. 8%) and Magu(29. 2%). Most are multi- drug abusers,with high relapse rate and low drug- related harm awareness. The abusers were elder(36. 8 a ± 7. 1 a),more unemployed( 64. 7%),less polydrug abuse( 15. 1%) and more eager to detoxification drugs(64. 0%) in methadone clinics,compared with the other two institutions.Conclusion: There were different characteristics of drug abuse in different institutions, various public health education and behavioral intervention should be carried out.
