Abstract
Objective To investigate the status of death cases and causes of the inpatients in a general hospital during2008-2012,and thus to provide references for disease prevention and clinical treatment,as well as for decreasing the fatality rate. Methods According to International Classification of Diseases( ICD-10),the direct network reported 3 221death cases during 2008-2012 in Nanchong Central Hospital were retrospectively analyzed. Results The fatality rate of the patients was 1.67%( 2.30% for male and 1.03% for female). The fatality rate was statistically higher than that of female. The major causes of death were consecutively cancer, heart disease, cerebrovascular disease and respiratory diseases, accounting for 76.72%( 2 471 /3 221) of deaths in total; injury and poisoning were among the top 5 causes of death. Conclusion The male sex, cancer, cerebrovascular disease, respiratory disease, injury and poisoning are the high risk population to death, and thus targeted prevention and treatment measures should be carried out to enhance the medical quality and the quality of life,as well as to lower the fatality rate.
