Abstract

Objective To investgate the relationship between cellular apoptosis and the expression of genes bcl-2 in pancreatic carcinoma tissues. Methods The apoptotic cells index(AI) were identified by in situ and labeling(ISEL).Immunohistologic staining for expression of bcl-2 protein was performed on 40 pancreatic carcinomas and 14 chronic pancreatitis. Results The mean AI in the pancreatic carcinoma was significantly higher than that in chronic pancreatitis(P0.01) and there was a tendency to increase of the mean AI with the progress of pancreatic cancinoma. The positive expression rate of bcl-2 gene was 30.0%(12/40).High expression of bcl-2 protein showed an average AI of 2.71,low expression of bcl-2 protein had an average of AI 3.10(P0.05).Conclusion Apoptosis may play an important role in the pathogensis of pancreatic carcinoma, the bcl-2 protein takes part in the regulation of apoptosis in the pancreatic carinoma.
