C-shaped Root Canal in Mandibular Second Molars Evaluated by Cone-beam Computed Tomography

Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the anatomical feature of C-shaped canal in mandibular second molars by cone-beam computed tomography(CBCT).Methods:The CBCT images of 476 mandibular second molars in 238 patients were selected to observe the C-shaped root canal occurance in mandibular second molars.Results:A Cshaped root canal was present in 40.12%of the teeth.The incidence of C-shaped root canal present in bilaterally was 31.9%.There was no significant difference between tooth position for detecting the C-shaped root canal.There was no significant difference in gender.Conclusion:High prevalence of C-shaped root canal was presented in mandibular second molars.CBCT provides more precise image to help clinical diagnosis and treatment.
