Perplexity in The Awakening ——With a Concurrent Comment on Kate Chopin's Feminist Thinking

Kate Chopin,an American feminist writer,fully expressed her thinking in Edna,the heroine in The Awakening.Edna had a lot of awakening and perplexity with regards to her existence.In a malecentred society,it was almost impossible for a woman to pursue her independence and liberation.Kate Chopin raised questions on the value of motherhood and on marriage's restrictions on women's selfdevelopment.Kate Chopin could not find a wayout to the paradox between women's natural existence and their liberation.Nor did she realize that women's liberation is not only the business of women,but also the business of the whole human race.
