Study on features of self-concept of 1711 college students

Objective To understand the features of self-concept of local college students so as to offer a theoretical basis for mental health education of college students. Methods A total of 1 711 college students were tested with Tennessee Self Concept Scale(TSCS). Results The total score of self-concept of the college students was high(M=258.03).There were significant differences between the male and female students in the total score of self-concept,the moral and ethical self, psychological me,family self,social self,self-concept,self-action,and self-criticism(P0.01).There were significant differences between only-child and non-only-child in these students in the moral and ethical self,family self and self-action(P0.01).There were significant differences among different grades in each factor point(P0.01).There were significant differences among different subjects in all factors except self-satisfaction(P0.05). Conclusions The local college students possess some specialties in self-concept.We should carry out the mental health education according to these characteristics.
