Abstract
The paper first investigates the current philosophical bewilderment concerning materialism and the loss of phenomenalism in philosophical studies, and goes on to reiterate the substantial nature of the universe as the foundation for all beings and all studies. The human being, with his instinct for survival,is irrevocably linked to the community in which he exists and thus the study of man is irrevocably linked the study of all disciplines. The paper further discusses such aspects of human existence as materialism, idealism, dualism, religion etc.and concludes that materialism is the only means of human understanding.
