Abstract

Chinese landscape painting and western landscape painting shape respective distinct styles under the cultivation of each own culture. Differences in aesthetic taste and way of expression between Chinese landscape painting and western landscape painting result in respective obviously different views of sketching. According to a Chinese view, sketching of Chinese landscape painting pursues a command and presentation of the verve beauty and spirit of objects, focusing on expressing the character with form and characterizing the imagery. According to the western view, however, sketching of western landscape painting seeks a command and representation of the external feature of objects, emphasizing a life-like presentation of natural scenes. Although there are obvious differences between view of sketching of Chinese and western landscape paintings, they show several similarities owing to commonality in expression requirement and uniformity in the painter's expression of emotion in face of nature.
