Abstract
Objective: To study and evaluate the efficiency of transcatheter arterial embolization in the treatment of sacrum tumor. Methods: Eleven cases of sacrum tumor were embolized through transcatheter arterial emobolization with gelfoam, then were operated on the next day. Results: Tremendous decrease of blood loss was found in 10 cases. The average volume of blood loss was 1120 ml. All the tumors underwent necrosis and liquefaction, and the volume of tumor was decreased. Tumor was completely resected in 9 cases. There were no serious complications in all of the cases. Conclusion: Transcatheter arterial embolization would be an effective method for reducing the volume of intraoperative blood loss, and is advantageous to the resection of tumor. This method should be spread clinically.
