Analysis on Characteristics of AIDS High Risk Behavior among MSM in an Immigrant City

OBJECTIVE To understand the characteristics of the HIV high risk sexual behaviors among men who have sex with men(MSM) in an immigrant city and provide scientific evidence for behavioral intervention among them. METHODS An anonymous questionnaire was conducted on MSM who were recruited by respondent-driven sampling(RDS). The questionnaire contains general population information, sexual orientation, method of sexual behavior, condom use and commercial sexual behaviors, etc. RESULTS Among total 589 cases MSM investigated, 90.49% were unmarried, 72.33% people are from other province. In the past 6 months, the median of homosexual partner number of MSM was 5. Consistent condom use was 74.27%. Condom use of regular sexual partner, multiple sexual partners, occasional sexual partners and commercial sex partners were 15.79%, 16.85%, 15.38% and 82.35%. 9.78% of anal intercourse investigated people from foreign countries; 24.37% of MSM non-commercial sexual partners were from Hongkong; 46.18% of investigated people have commercial sex with men, 7.64% of investigated people have commercial sex with women; 47.88% of investigated people have sex with women, while their condom use was 40.59%. CONCLUSION There is large population mobility in the immigrant city, sexual behavior with people from Hongkong, foreign countries are popular, multiple sexual partners and commercial sexual behaviors is also prevalent. Condom use rate is very low among above behaviors, exceptcommercial sexual behavior. Health education and behavioral intervention should be strengthened.
