Abstract

Objective: To study the effect of emodin on renal interstitial fibrosis in rats. Methods:Rat model of renal interstitial fibrosis was prepared by unilateral ureteral obstruction and was intervened by low, medium, and high dosages of emodin(25,50,and 80 mg/kg body weight),respectively. The survival condition of the rats was ob served and on day 28 after intervention, rats from all groups were sacrificed for detection of serum C-I,PIIIP,HA and TGF-βmRNA in kidney tissues. Results: Compared to the model group, rats in emodin groups had bet ter survival rate, reduced serum C-I,PIIIP,and HA(P0.05) and decreased expression of TGF-βmRNA in renal tissues(P0.05).Conclusion: Emodin can play a role of anti-fibrosis in rats by decreasing the expression of TGF-βmRNA in renal tissues.
