A Brief Account of the Studies on Chinese Marxist Historiography in the United States

Chinese Marxist historiography established in the 19920s has gone through nine decades of ups and downs.Both Chinese scholars and American scholars have paid great attention to Chinese Marxist historiography: how it has grown step by step;how it has scored its achievements and grasped its fate;how to understand and evaluate these aspects.American scholars began to study Chinese Marxist historiography in the 1950s.Up to now,their studies have lasted nearly half a century.During this period,American scholars have not only committed themselves to examining the development of Chinese Marxist historiography,but also focused on studying the theory and history of Chinese Marxist historiography,including the theory of Marxist historical materialism,theory of Asiatic mode of production and peasant war in China.Today when we are endeavoring to strengthen and promote the construction of Chinese Marxist historiography and its theory,American scholars’criticism of Chinese Marxist historiography,praise for its value,and comments on Chinese scholars’use of Marxist theory to explore the history of China can provide a useful reference and experience for us.
