Abstract
Objective To investigate the prevalence of overweight and obesity among children aged 0-18 years in Chengdu.MethodsThe survey was conducted among 16 901children,who were randomly selected in 3 urban districts of Chengdu. Their weights and heights were collected. The prevalence of overweight and obesity was estimated according to the standards from WHO.ResultsThe survey showed 12.5% of children(2 019)were overweight and 5.2%of these(833)were obesity. At the same time,27.1% of infants(736)were overweight,the prevalence was the most highest. The obesity prevalence of boys was higher than that of girls.ConclusionThis study demonstrates a high prevalence of overweight and obesity in children in Chengdu. Prompt actions are needed to be initiate prevention and intervention to reverse the trend of this spread.
