Abstract
Liang Qichao's view of culture in the early period actually was consistent with that in late period. His attitude to western culture and Chinese culture was very rational. On one hand,he admitted the independence and significance of modern western theories which had been regarded by some Chinese as deriving from ancient Chinese works. On the other hand,he disagreed with the inclination of westernizing the whole Chinese culture. So he looked forward to the combination of Chinese culture and western culture and then tried to construct a kind of new culture.
