Analysis of thyroid function in 230 cases of elderly inpatients

Abstract

Objective To investigate the thyroid function of elderly inpatients with various kinds diseases.Methods Serum total triiodothyronine(T3),total thyroxine(T4),free triiodothyronine(FT3),free thyroxine(FT4),thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH) and serum albumin were detected in two hundreds and thirty patients.Results Among 230 cases,34(14.78%) cases were hypothyroidism;5(2.17%) cases were subclinical hypothyroidism;95(41.30%) cases were sick euthyroid syndrome(SES),including 78 cases of low T3 and 17(17.89%) cases of low T3/T4;96(41.74%) cases were euthyroidism.Conclusion The thyroid function abnormal with high incidence is easy to missed diagnosis in elderly inpatients.The incidence of SES is high,and most SES are low T3.
