Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect of excessive retinoic acid (RA) on the expression of RARα and RARβ in the neural tube of golden hamster embryos. Methods: The changes of the RARα mRNA and RARβ mRNA induced by excessive RA in normally developed neural tube and neural tube defects of golden hamsters were analyzed with RT-PCR. Results: Excessive RA down-regulated the expressions of RARα mRNA and RARβ mRNA in the neural tube of golden hamster initially, and then up-regulated them significantly. Conclusion:The changes of RARα mRNA and RARβ mRNA expression induced by excessive RA are correlated with the neural tube defects of golden hamster induced by RA.
