Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effect of blood glucose self-monitoring and community intervention on patients with diabetes mellitus. Methods 64 patients with type 2 diabetes in our community were divid-ed into the SMBG group ( 32 cases) and the control group ( 32 cases) ,all were treated with regular drugs, physical and blood examination, patients in the SMBG group were treated with blood glucose self-monitoring and community intervention. The level of blood glucose, hypoglycemia and major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events in two groups were observed. Results The levels of fasting glucose, postprandial glucose and haemoglobin A1c were significantly lower in SMBG group than those in control group ( P 0. 01). Hypoglycemia in SMBG group significantly decreased than those in control group ( P 0. 01). Conclusion Blood glucose self monitoring and community intervention can help patients with diabetes mellitus to control their blood glucose, decrease the complications, and promote the life quality.
