Abstract

AIM: To investigate the changes of nitric oxide and its effect during hepatic I/R injury. METHODS: One hundred and fifteen male SD rats were divided into four groups: GroupⅠ: sham operation; Group Ⅱ: 70 min ischemia followed by reperfusion with saline given intravenously; GroupⅢ: L-arg; GroupⅣ: L-NNA plus L-arg. Rats were sacrificed at 0, 1, 3, 6 and 12 h after reperfusion. Serum NO, ALT, MDA and plasma TNF-α were detected. RESULTS: Serum NO in Group Ⅱ was higher than that in GroupⅠ just after reperfusion but it then decreased significantly. Serum ALT and MDA elevated in GroupⅡ. There were significant differences at 1-6 h after reperfusion (P0.05). Plasma TNF-α increased significantly after 3 h (P0.05). L-arg, the NO donor, significantly reversed these changes (P0.05). CONCLUSION: Serum NO decreases 1 h after hepatic ischemia-reperfusion. It may play an important role in the hepatic I/R injury.
