Abstract
To compare the long-term effects of VVI and DDD pacing on paroxysmal atrial tachyarrhythmias of sick sinus syndrome(SSS). Forty seven patients who had pacemaker implanted because of SSS were divided into two groups: A group included 22 patients who were implanted VVI pacing and B group included 25 patients who were implanted DDD pacing; The mean follow-up time was (21.3±9. 6) and (26.1±11.3) months, respectively. 19 patients were observed in group A which included 3 patients with stable sinus rhythm, 9 patients with paroxysmal atrial flutter-fibrillation, 7 patients with chronic atrial fibrillation; Meanwhile 23 patients were observed in group A which included 14 patients with stable sinus rhythm, 7 patients with paroxysmal atrial flutter-fibrillation, 2 patients with chronic atrial fibrillation. [Conclusion] DDD pacing can inhibit atrial tachyarrhythmias of SSS and is apparently superior to VVI pacing.
