Effects of Miao Medicine Xuemaitong Capsule on Retinal Functioning among Simple Diabetic Retinopathy Patients

Objective To observe the effects of Miao medicine Xuemaitong capsule on the Fundus Fluoreseseei angiography(FFA),mean sensitivity(MS),and Electroretinogram-Oscillatory Potentials(ERG-OPs) of simple diabetic retinopathy patients.Methods Ninety-four patients(188 eyes) with diabetic retinopathy who were diagnosed with qi and Yin deficiency and blood stasis resistance were randomly divided into the observation group and the control group.treated with Xuemaitong capsules and dobesilate calsium capsules respectively in addition to homemade oral Sanqi(panax notoginseng) powder capsules for both groups.Both treatment regimens lasted for 3 months.FFA,MS,and ERG-OPs were observed for both groups before and after treatment.Results The experimental group showed a curative effect superior to that of the control group(P0.001);MS showed significant differences between the observation group and the control group(P0.001);the incubation period of OPs O1 peak was shortened in the observation group(P0.001).Conclusion Xuemaitong capsule is an effective drug for early diabetic retinopathy which improves the conditions of the fundus oculi as well as the MS value.It also has effects on ERG-OPs among simple diabetic retinopathy patients and maintains the stable condition of retinal blood flow.
