Expression of survivin and its relationship with expression of bcl2 in esophageal carcinoma

Objective To explore the expression of Survivin in esophageal carcinoma and its relationship with expression of bcl-2.Methods The expression of Survivin and bcl-2 protein was detected by immunohistochemical streptavidin-biotin peroxidase(SP) method in esophageal carcinoma tissues and normal esophageal tissues.Results Surivivn was expressed in 49 of 68(72.1%) cases of esophageal carcinoma.Overexpression of Survivin was related to the differentiation and lymph node metastasis.Survivin expression was strongly associated with bcl-2 expression(94.7% versus 43.3%,P0.05).Conclusion Up-regulation of Survivin in esophageal carcinoma suggests that Survivin gene may play an important role in the oncogenesis and progression of esophageal carcinoma by the inhibition of apoptosis.Survivin and up-regulation of bcl-2(apoptosis related gene) play synergetic roles in progress of carcinogenesis of esophagus.
