Abstract

A series of copolymer emulsions of styrene(St),butyl acrylate(BA),acrylic aid(AA) were obtained by means of microemulsion polymerization and with potassium persulfate(KPS) as an initiator, sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS)/polyethylene glycol phenyl ether(OP-10) as the complex emulsifier. The effects of various amount of monomer, emulsifier, acrylic acid, initiator, and polymerization temperature etc on property of the emulsions and particle size were investigated. The copolymer were characterized by TEM and the emulsion property test. The result showed: the polymer particle is a relatively uniform diameter about 10~89 nm and morphology is more regular sphere;the particle size decrease with increasing emulsifier content;when BA content in the St/BA comonomers feeding is improved, the coating property is soft and good. Thus when m(St)/m(BA)=5/5~4/6,m(SDS)/m(OP-10)=1/1~3/2,acrylic acid is 3 % of the total comonomers, initiator is 0.4 % of the total comonomers, polymerization temperature is 65~80 ℃,the emulsion property is well and particle size is nanoscale.
