Abstract
Objective To investigate the relationship between expression of TOPⅡ and response of neoadjuvant chemotherapy in breast cancer.Methods Core biopsy samples were obtained for assay of TOPⅡ expression before the chemotherapy and surgery.The TOPⅡ status was examined using immunohistochemistry(IHC) in 73 pairs of pre-and post-chemotherapeutic breast cancer tissues.Results TOPⅡ positive expression showed a correlation with anthracycline-based neoadjuvant chemotherapy response(P =0.005).On the other hand,the difference between pre-operative and post-operative TOPⅡ expression was statistically significant(P =0.027).The reduction of the TOPⅡ-positive cells correlated with a better pathological response to the neoadjuvant chemotherapy(P =0.017).Conclusion The results thus suggest that in breast cancer TOPⅡ may be a useful predictor of the effects of anthracycline-based neoadjuvant chemotherapy and guiding the choice of post-operative chemotherapy.
