Expression of Tumor Suppressor Gene PTEN and it Clinical Significance in Gastric Adenocarcinoma

Objective:To study the expression of tumor suppressor PTEN in gastric adenocarcinoma,and to investigate the relationship between PTEN and clinical pathological characteristics.Methods:The expression of PTEN in cancer tissue and adjacent normal tissue in 60 patients with gastric adnocarcinoma was detected by the immunohistochemical SP technique.Results:The positive rate of PTEN protein in the cancer tissue was 47.1%,which was significantly lower than that in the normal tissues(P=0.001).The expression of PTEN had no correlation with age and sex(P0.05) but was related to histological differentiation(P=0.009),the depth of tumor invasion(P=0.001),lymph node metastasis(P=0.004),and clinical stage(P=0.002).Conclusion:The lost of tumor suppressor PTEN activity may be closely related to the biological behavior of gastric cancer.PTEN can serve as the markers in the diagnosis,treatment and prognosis of gastric adnocarcinoma.
