New Legend and Good Myth ——the stylistic features of the Shanghai narrative fiction by Zhang Ailing and Wang Anyi

Through narrating a series of stories about the characters' joys and sorrows, partings and reunions, Zhang Ailing and Wang Anyi depict the different conditions and features of the new and old Shanghai, as well as the vivid, fine and closely women life texture of the shanghai inhabitants. The concretized characters and experiential plots in Zhang Ailing's fiction indicate that her literary creation has all along been influenced by traditional fiction. Wang Anyi is meticulous about giving the reader a mass of indistinctlynatured characters, and seeks the logic of fiction, thus rebelling, in some degrees, against the established practice and essential constitutional elements of the traditional fiction. From different dimensions, Zhang Ailing and Wang Anyi have displayed for the reader a rich and varied Shanghai panorama with profound connotations.
