Abstract
Objective To understand the clinical features and curative outcome of early syphilis. Methods The clinical data of 98 cases with early syphilis were retrospectively analyzed. Results The 98 cases of syphilis with a male/ female ratio of 1.39:1 and aged from 20 to 49 years old were retrospectively analzyed. Fifteen patients were early latent syphilis without any clinical symptoms. Eitheen cases were phase I syphilis accounted for 15.31% with hard chancre in the genitals,59 phase II syphilis (60.20%)with scale and erythema in the trunks and limbs, syphilid palmaris or plantaris and condyloma flat as the major manifestation. There 25 patients were misdiagnosed,9 patients suffered from other sexually transmitted diseases. Ninty patients were treated with intramuscular benzathine penicillin, and 4 patients were treated by intravenous penicillin subsequently,otherwise,7 patients were treated with minocycline. The negative conversion rate of serum RPR 6 months after treatment was 83% and 53.33% for latent syphilis and 49.15% for patients with phase II syphilis Conclusion Sexually active people are high risk p0opulation for syphilis, and the varied clinical manifestation of early syphilis make it very common for misdiagnosis. Syphilis serology in the patients with other STD is very important. Penicillin is the drug of choice for syphilis.
