Abstract

It is usually believed that the biggest characteristic of XUE Bao-chai' personal character is the holding back of her passions with reason.At the same time,there are still in her youth subconscious excitements which cannot be held back.That she forgot herself was described several times in the novel.Some critics regard it as her hypocrisy.But the writer of this paper think those behaviors of hers are the splitting of her personality on the psychological level,reflecting the conflict between her consciousness and her subconscious self.
