Abstract

Objective To evaluate one relatively accurate measurement of the thickness of the levator aponeurosis by ultrasound biomicroscopy,and to provide clinical guidance on the surgical treatment of blepharoptosis.Methods 84 upper eyelids of 42 bilateral or unilateral congenital dysmyogenic and aponeurotic blepharoptosis patients were measured by the clinical standards and categorized into normal,mild,moderate and severe group.Ultrasound biomicroscopy was applied to measure the thickness of levator of each eyelid and to see the if there are significent differences.Results The measurements of normal group(23 eyelids),mild group(16 eyelids),moderate group(19 eyelids),and severe group(26 eyelids) are 0.478±0.037mm;0.383±0.038mm;0.381±0.042mm;0.339±0.035mm respectively.Significant difference was found between the groups(P0.01).Conclusions The thickness of the levator aponeurosis can be measured and grouped with ultrasound biomicroscopy which can provid clinical guidance on the surgical treatment of blepharoptosis.
