Abstract

In late Qing dynasty and with the development of society and economy,a dramatic change also took place in the currency and the currency system.The currency system of silver coins coexisting with official copper ones was shaken and broken up step by step.The silver standard currency principle was eventually established.The currency and transformation of currency system in late Qing dynasty is an important step of currency system transforming from tradition to modern system.Moreover,it reflects the modernization of economy in China.This paper examines the emergence of such new currency form,as silver dollar,copper Yuan and paper money,the substitution for silver coins and official copper coins,the transformation of currency system and the circulation volume currency in the late Qing dynasty.
