Curative Effect of Canalith Repositioning in Treatment of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo

Objective To explore the clinical efficacy of canalith reposition procedure in the treatment of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo(BPPV).Methods Two hundred sixty patients with BPPV were diagnosed by Dix-Hallpike test or Roll test.Among the patients,212 cases with posterior semicircular canal were treated with Epley canalith repositioning method,and 48 cases with horizontal semicircular canal were treated with Barbecue rolling method.Results The total effective rates in BPPV patients with posterior semicircular canal(n=212) were 98.1% and 94.3% after 1-week and 3-month follow-up,respectively,and the recurence rates were 0.0% and 5.7%,respectively.The total effective rates in BPPV patients with horizontal semicircular canal(n=48) were 95.8% and 81.3% after 1-week and 3-month follow-up,respectively,and the recurernce rates were 2.1% and 18.8%,respectively.Conclusion Canalith repositioning procedure is a simple and effective method for treatment of BPPV and may significantly shorten the course,which can serve as the first line therapy.
