Abstract
A mathematical model was developed to investigate the collision and growth behavior of inclusions in a two-strand unsymmetrical tundish. The numerical results indicate that the baffles has a great effect on the fluid flow and is helpful to control the turbulent flow in tundish. The turbulent kinetic energy dissipation rate is more uniform in the tundish with baffle and the maximum value is about one fifth of that in the tundish without baffle. The baffle in tundish can change the distribution of inclusions and increase the inclusion removal rate. Furthermore, the removal rate for inclusions larger than 50 can be increased greatly in tundish with baffle.
