Abstract

Objective To study the curative method and therapeutic outcome of otitis media with effusion(OME)in patients with enlarged adenoid. Methods All 32 patients(49 ears) with enlarged adenoid underwent adenoidectomy, the residues were irradiated by Nd∶YAG laser;17 ears underwent laser myringotomy, the other 32 ears underwent auripuncture and rinse. The follow-up periods were 3 months. Results There were no residues of adenoid after a month of operation;the cure rate, remission rate and invalid rate of 49 ears of otitis media with effusion was 57.2%(30 ears),28.6%(14 ears)and 14.2%(5 ears). No severe complication took place. Conclusions Treatment of otitis media with effusion by Nd∶YAG laser in children with enlarged adenoid is safe and effective.
