Abstract

A new catalytic kinetic spectrophotometry for the determination of trace formaldehyde was established based on the catalytic effect of formaldehyde on oxidation reaction of methyl orange by potassium bromate in hydrochloric acid. The detection limit is 2.32×10~ -8g/mL in linear ranges of 0.4—60μg/25mL.The method was applied to the determination of formaldehyde in atmosphere, water with satisfactory results.
