The antiviral effect of Chinese Gentian against respiratory syncytial virus in vitro

Abstract

Objective To observe the anti-respiratory syncytial virus(RSV) effect of Chinese Gentian.(Methods) The anti-RSV effect of Chinese Gentian in HeLa cell culture was observerd by means of the cytopathic effect inhibition assay.Results In HeLa cell culture,Chinese Gentian was found to be an inhibitor of RSV in a concentration-dependent manner,and the median cytotoxic concentration(TC_(50)) was 15.25mg/ml,and the median effective concentration(EC_(50)) was 1.07mg/ml and the therapeutic index(TI)was 14.25.Conclusion Chinese Gentian has a significant antiviral effect on RSV.
