Abstract

Objective To evaluate the improvement in the diagnostic accuracy of ureteral calculi by ultrasonography. Methods The upper,middle and lower parts of ureters of 207 patients with ureteral calculi were detected by ultrasound in varied postures and methods. During examination the emphasis was put on the middle and lower parts of the ureter. For unclear images of middle and lower ureteral calculi, the oral rapid developer for cystodiaphanoscopy was taken by the patients and bandage stick adding balloon of sphygmoma-nometer belt pressure check-up was applied for re-examination. Results With these methods, the accuracy of ultrasonic diagnosis was 100% in 68 cases of the upper ureteral calculi, 98% in 95 cases of the middle ureteral calculi (93/95) and 98% in 44 cases of the lower ureteral calculi (43/44) , respectively. Conclusions By means of these methods, the ureteral calculi can be well displayed, and the ultrasonographic diagnostic accuracy can be improved. They are valuable methods for detecting ureteral calculi.
