Abstract

Antioxidant activities of Dracocephalum integrifolium ethanol extract were evaluated using two complementary in vitro assays: hydroxyl radicals scavenging and DPPH radical scavenging. The ethanol extract took the spent Dracocephalum integrifolium derived from waste residues of supercritical CO2 extract as the material and were separated according to the polarity difference by ether, ethyl acetate and n-butanol.Three extracts showed that varying degrees of antioxidant capacity, the free radicals scavenging activities were similar to DPPH radicals but different from that of hydroxyl radicals.Among them the half eliminating ratio of ethyl acetate and ether extract for hydroxyl radicals were significantly less than the reference standard Rutin and BHT under the same conditions. The half eliminating ratio of n-butanol extract for DPPH radicals was less than that for hydroxyl radicals, but there is little difference within the two assays system for ethyl acetate and ether extract.
