Abstract

Wheat stripe rust,caused by Puccinia striiformis f.sp.tritici,is a major foliar disease,largely influencing the wheat production in China.Identification of stripe rust resistance genes and their closely linked molecular markers is of great importance in breeding resistant wheat cultivars.The objective of this study was to map a stripe rust resistance gene in wheat line Guizhou 98-18 using molecular markers.The stripe rust resistance gene,designated as YrG98 tentatively,was located on chromosome 3DS,and linked to the SSR loci Xgwm161 and Xcfd79,with genetic distances of 3.9 cM and 4.2 cM,respectively,which is likely to be a new gene for stripe rust resistance.This study will provide an useful stripe rust resistance gene and its closely linked molecular markers for wheat breeding.
