Effect of improved leukapheresis on patients with hyperleukocytic leukemia

Objective:To compare the efficacy and adverse effect between the improved leukapheresis and the traditional leukapheresis on patients with hyperleukocytic leukemia.Method:Eighty-four patients with hyperleukocytic leukemia were divided into improved group in which patients accepted the improved leukapheresis followed by chemotherapy(n=43)and traditional group in which patients accepted the traditional leukapheresis followed by chemotherapy(n=41).Changes of the blood cell count after leukapheresis,incidence of adverse effect in leukapheresis and clinical efficacy were evaluated between the two groups.Result:The two methods of leukapheresis could effectively remove leukemic cells.The operating time in improved group was shorter than that in traditional group [(127±11)min vs(220±8)min,P0.05].The incidence of hypocalcemia and hypovolaemic symptoms in improved group were lower than those in traditional group(14.0%vs 31.7%,14.0%vs 31.7%,P0.05).Conclusion:The improved leukapheresis can remove leukemic cells effectively as the traditional method,and reduce the operating time and incidence of hypocalcemia and hypovolaemic symptoms.The improved leukapheresis is worthy of clinical application.
