Analysis of economic development of regional difference in Chongqing

Aiming at the widening gap between the regions of Chongqing Municipality caused by imbalance development of regional economy,this thesis analyses the economic data from 1998 to 2007 of Chongqing's 40 regions and counties,by using Theil-T index and principal component analysis method,figures out the trend that the regional difference varies according to the relative level of economic development.It turns out that the regional difference of economic development basically remains stable before 2004,then turns to a trend of widening rapidly and reaches its peak in 2006.Decomposed by Theil-T index,it is found that nearly 80 percent of the region difference results from the difference of inter-regional economic development.Meanwhile,by using principal component analysis method,the 40 regions and counties' situation in 2007 are analyzed and ranked,which further illuminates and proves the fact that the regional difference of Chongqing's economic development level is mainly caused by difference of inter-regional development.
